20) ROTOT ACCIDENTS
About 20) ROTOT
This accident is similar to the LOTOT, except that a pilot is presented with a poorly running power plant, as opposed to one that has totally failed. In the case of the LOTOT, there is little choice, you will be landing very soon someplace. Given a ROTOT, a pilot may be falsely lulled into thinking that the engine will produce enough power to make it to an airport, or to be able to return to the departure airport. The engine may provide enough thrust to maintain level flight, but cannot be counted on for flight into an area where the continuation of thrust becomes life critical.
