About 7b) TERRAIN COLLISION - AUTOMATION
This happens mostly to new pilots in expensive aircraft, with the newest high tech cockpit panels and autopilots. The pilot becomes accustomed to allowing the avionics and autopilot to fly the aircraft based on a selection of options. The pilot in this scenario trusts the avionics and autopilot as being certified, and therefore over relies on its performance. While the main new hazard here is the over reliance on the avionics generated “advisory glideslope”, a general over reliance on automation is a new scenario and can cause the pilot to be less aware, and less prepared, and more lazy in not fully preparing for any phase of flight.
