Probable Cause
DTSB: The DTSB determines the Probable Cause of this accident to be Pilot Error, in that the accident pilot departed runway 19 at KHFY and immediately lowered the nose and side stepped to the left, with an impressive airshow type pull up and left turning departure. The accident flight path is such that the accident pilot may have been performing a banana type pass for ground observers located somewhere near the intersection of East man and Emerson avenue. The aircraft was aerodynamically stalled with the engine running at the full power setting of 38 inches and 2650 RPM. The combination of this power and RPM would have yielded a very loud engine sound, in combination with the aggressive left hand show pass. The aircraft was flown by the accident pilot well below DMMS speed and at a bank angle greater than 30 degrees until the stall occurred, whereupon the aircraft rolled to the right, and transitioned from Controlled flight into uncontrolled flight into terrain. The Probable Cause of this accident is likely centered upon the AQP scenario for impromptu buzzing / acro flight for the intended benefit of someone on the ground.
NTSB: NONE
Recommendation
DTSB: The DTSB recommends that all pilots of all aircraft refrain form low level buzzing, Acro, impromptu airshow displays, and that they maintain flight at or above DMMS, and maintain bank angles less than 30 degrees when below 2500 AGL.
NTSB: NONE
