Probable Cause

DTSB: The DTSB determines the Probable Cause of this accident to be unknown. The pilot held no pilots certification or medical, and departed Danville, Illinois on the morning of August 7 with destination Colorado Springs, Colorado. Due to the pilots age and past medical history, it is suspected that an in flight medical abnormal may have occurred rendering the pilot either unconscious or in a degraded state of ability. The weather at the time of the accident does not appear to be a factor, and the aircraft came to rest in a very flat soy bean field after a descending cruise speed descent into the terrain, possibly indicative of in flight incapacitation.

Recommendation

DTSB: The DTSB recommends that all pilots of all aircraft be alert and conscious of possible medical limitations that could cause in flight incapacitation.
