Probable Cause
DTSB: The DTSB determines the Probable Cause of this accident to be Pilot Error, in that the pilot continue flight into an area of decreasing ceiling and visibility, and attempted to reach destination by flying very low, whereupon he eventually flew into terrain at a high cruise speed. The area contained widespread dense fog at the time of the crash.

DTSB: The DTSB recommends that all pilot of all aircraft use available technology to avoid night flight into conditions of deteriorating ceiling and visibility. The DTSB alas recommends the avoidance of night flight where possible for single engine piston aircraft.
