Probable Cause
DTSB: The DTSB determines the Probable Cause of this accident to be Pilot Error, in that the pilot maneuvered his aircraft in such a way as that the canopy collapsed and folded under, a total sudden loss of lift. There were no deficiencies found with the parachute or the rigging.

Recommendation
DTSB: The DTSB recommends that all pilots of all such aircraft rehearse and condition for flight well within the working flight envelope, so as to prevent similar canopy collapse incidents. The canopy would have self inflated and recovered if there had been sufficient altitude when the incident occurred.
