Probable Cause

DTSB: The DTSB determines the Probable Cause of this accident to be Pilot Error, in that the pilot lost power in the left engine, and safely made it to the runway environment of runway 32 at KYNG, and yet ended up both high and fast for that runway. The pilot elected a full power go around at the very end of runway 32 using the thrust available from the right engine only, while fully configured with landing gear and full flaps extended. The pilot turned left into his dead engine and the aircraft flew well below Vmc, whereupon directional control was lost. The pilot mishandled a very simple engine abnormal that should have been very easy to bring to a successful landing.

NTSB: NONE

Recommendation

DTSB: The DTSB recommends that all pilot of all aircraft review and become conditioned to multi engine go around procedures, and review the dangers in mishandling a simple in flight engine abnormal.

NTSB: NONE
